Your parents and customers win. They will save $30 or more for every bulb they purchase over the life of the bulb.
Your group wins. They get a percentage of the money received from every sale. Plus, your group competes for state and national prizes created by setting aside a portion of the sale of every bulb. If all the groups do their job, this prize could get very large.
Your environment wins. For each lightbulb replaced with a more efficient one, a relatively large amount of energy is saved, and harmful gases are not emitted into the atmosphere.
Your country wins. Besides having a cleaner environment that everyone enjoys, you are helping your country meet its goals of reduced energy usage and decreased dependence on foreign energy.
Just think, replacing just one 100-watt lighbulb with a 23-watt compact fluorescent lightbulb will save, over the life of the bulb, the equivalent of 500 pounds of coal, and reduce emissions by over 1300 pounds of CO2. And the reduced energy costs easily pay for the cost of the bulb in no time at all. And that's just one bulb! Just think if every household replaced 5 or even 10 bulbs...

GET DETAILS ON YOUR FUNDRAISER. Find out from the fundraiser administrator how you will be selling light bulbs. You may be having an onsite fundraiser, or be selling to family and friends.
START SELLING. Start with your own home. Discuss your home's energy use with your parents and determine how much money you can save by replacing bulbs in your house. Use the Your Energy Savings calculator to determine the savings. Bring the filled in order form back to your group. Take other forms to your neighbors and friends in your town. The form clearly describes all the benefits of the lights, so your selling job should not be very hard.
FOLLOW THE PROGRESS. Follow the nationwide progress of the LightbulbsAmerica fundraiser on this website.
TELL OTHERS. Email, text-message or call friends or relatives at other schools to tell them about this fundraiser. If you are emailing, you can send them this message. Spread the word!
KEEP SAVING ENERGY. Watch your own energy usage in your daily life. Turn off lights you are not using, keep your heat turned down, and try to share rides more often if you are driving. If you are in high school, just look around the parking lot at all the cars that are probably driven to school with only one occupant.
