Every purchase made in the LightbulbsAmerica fundraiser results in a portion of the sales, usually $.10 a bulb, being set aside for prizes awarded at the end of the promotion. This amount is over and above the amount each organization makes on their lightbulb sales. This money is placed in an escrow account for safekeeping. The current 2008 promotion is due to end on December 31, 2008 with the prize to be awarded early in 2009 after the books have been closed and purchases verified.
Purchases of bulbs have to be made and paid for by midnight on December 10, 2008 to allow time for delivery and sales by the end of the year, and all funds have to clear the issuing bank or credit card company. Product returns are not accepted.
The award money will be apportioned as follows:
-
50% - Grand Prize Winner. This award goes to the organization selling the largest number of lightbulbs during the entire promotion.
-
1% - Each State Winner. An award of 1% of the total goes to the organization selling the largest number of lightbulbs in each state. The Grand Prize Winner is not eligible for this award. The District of Columbia will be included with the state of Virginia for this prize.
Thus, if one million lightbulbs were sold nationally, the total award amount would be approximately $100,000 (1,000,000 times $.10). The Grand Prize Winner would receive $50,000 while the winner in each state would receive $1,000.
The accounting records of LightbulbsAmerica will be audited to ensure that the appropriate prize moneys are disbursed. and the money will be held in an escrow account. LightbulbsAmerica reserves the right to change the exact terms of the awards, but all money deposited in the award account from the sales of light bulbs will be dispersed to winners.
