Fundraising Prize Guidelines

Every purchase made in the LightbulbsAmerica fundraiser results in a portion of the sales, usually $.10 a bulb, being set aside for prizes awarded at the end of the promotion. This amount is over and above the amount each organization makes on their lightbulb sales. This money is placed in an escrow account for safekeeping. The current 2008 promotion is due to end on December 31, 2008 with the prize to be awarded early in 2009 after the books have been closed and purchases verified.

Purchases of bulbs have to be made and paid for by midnight on December 10, 2008 to allow time for delivery and sales by the end of the year, and all funds have to clear the issuing bank or credit card company. Product returns are not accepted.

The award money will be apportioned as follows:

  • 50% - Grand Prize Winner. This award goes to the organization selling the largest number of lightbulbs during the entire promotion.
  • 1% - Each State Winner. An award of 1% of the total goes to the organization selling the largest number of lightbulbs in each state. The Grand Prize Winner is not eligible for this award. The District of Columbia will be included with the state of Virginia for this prize.

Thus, if one million lightbulbs were sold nationally, the total award amount would be approximately $100,000 (1,000,000 times $.10). The Grand Prize Winner would receive $50,000 while the winner in each state would receive $1,000.

The accounting records of LightbulbsAmerica will be audited to ensure that the appropriate prize moneys are disbursed. and the money will be held in an escrow account. LightbulbsAmerica reserves the right to change the exact terms of the awards, but all money deposited in the award account from the sales of light bulbs will be dispersed to winners.

Income Taxes
The prizes that are rewarded may be subject to local, state and federal income taxes. The winning organizations should consult their tax advisors to determine their tax liabilities. Winning organizations assume all liability for taxes, though LightbulbsAmerica may be required to withhold a portion of the winnings to deposit with the appropriate tax organization.
Other Notes
  • If there are no sales for a state, or the total sales for the state are less than $200, then its share of the prize money will be distributed to the winners in the other states, but not to the grand prize winner.
  • In the case of an exact tie for either the grand prize or any state prize, the corresponding award will be divided equally among the organizations tied for first place.
  • Winners must have earned their prize through valid fundraising sales. We reserve the right to confirm the validity of each organization taking part in this fundraising drive.
  • Awards, including the grand prize, are only available to fundraising organizations in the 50 states and the District of Columbia (included with Virginia in regards to the prize).
  • Total sales for an organization are determined by the total number of bulbs (of any type) sent to the organization when it was registered. You cannot change the organization location midway through the contest other than to correct errors. You cannot aggregate sales from different locations or cities.
  • When bulbs are purchased, they are sent to the shipping address entered by the person actually making the purchase. They may choose, for example, to send the bulbs to their home address for safety and accounting reasons instead of to the school or church. Our database links purchase shipping addresses to the address of the fundraiser organization entered when it was registered. LightbulbsAmerica reserves the right to validate that the addresses are in close proximity to avoid the possible aggregation of efforts in two separate locations. This verification will be done again before the awards are presented.
  • Organizations that violate the guidelines presented here, or that are determined to not be valid fundraising organizations selling the light bulbs through valid fundraising efforts, will be ineligible for any award prize.
  • The calculations and decisions of LightbulbsAmerica regarding the presentation of prizes are final when made.
  • Organizations that purchase lightbulbs not intended to be sold during the scope of this fundraising drive (2008) will be ineligible for prizes. Lightbulbs purchased from LightbulbsAmerica for this fundraiser are not returnable except for cases where they were determined to be damaged upon delivery and the shipper immediately notified.
  • Neither Greenlite Corporation nor LightbulbsAmerica will be held liable for the results of any fraudulent activity on the part of any participant in this program. LightbulbsAmerica will carefully document all registrations and all purchases and will endeavor to properly validate all participants in this program.
